Outside the Wire
Tuesday’s Children, in collaboration with Outside the Wire, hosted a theatrical performance of dramatic readings from ancient plays that timelessly depict the psychological and physical wounds inflicted by traumatic events. The performance was followed by a panel presentation composed of a 9/11 family member, a 9/11 responder, an Iraq war veteran and a trauma therapist. The evening concluded with a town hall meeting in which the audience participated. The event was unique as it brought together the 9/11 community (those who lost loved ones and rescue and recovery workers) veterans, community organizations and mental health professionals. The event enabled these communities to engage in a dialogue which fostered empathy, healing and understanding. Audience reviews confirmed that this ancient and historical view of trauma helped raise awareness and strengthened the bond between these communities.
