The Happy Hour Guys’ Broadway Brews Project has rolled out its latest beer, this time with the show Come From Away. The project, which pairs the cast of a Broadway show with breweries to create a beer that raises funds for a good cause, resulted this time in the Islander Pale Ale, brewed in collaboration with Five Boroughs Brewing Co. and Newfoundland’s Yellowbelly Brewery, with the goal of the beer to raise money for Tuesday’s Children. This beer is the sum of its parts, so let’s delve into how everything about this beer comes together.
First, Come From Away is the Tony Award-winning musical about how the town of Gander, Newfoundland came to take in 7,000 airline passengers stranded after flights were grounded on September 11, 2001. The play made its Broadway debut in 2017 to critical acclaim. So, naturally, this beer paired a New York City brewery (Five Boroughs) with a brewery from Newfoundland (Yellowbelly).
The beer itself, Islander Pale Ale, is an American Pale Ale with fruit, pine, and sea spray – something you’ll find lots of on the island of Newfoundland.
A portion of the proceeds from the beer will benefit Tuesday’s Children, an organization that supports communities affected by acts of terror, whose original purpose was to support families of victims and first responders of 9/11.
