Colby College hosts Project Common Bond
WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) – A very special event is going on at Colby College this week that connects young adults from all over the world.
“It hits you at first like, ‘Oh this is a very new experience,'” says Alexis Garcia, first-time participant. “And I think it’s a very welcoming atmosphere because everyone else here can also share their struggles with you.”
“I think I’m most looking forward knowing other people’s stories and how they impacted their lives because mine has a very big impact on mine.”
Alexis lost her father while he was serving in the military. The program aims to bring together young adults ages 15-20 who share a “common bond”.
“Project Common Bond was started in 2008 by Tuesday’s Children as a way to enable the 9/11 kids to connect with others all around the world who have been impacted by terrorism or war,” says Terry Sears, Executive Director of Tuesday’s Children.
Kimberly Raines lost her father in the 9/11 terror attacks. This is her third year at Project Common Bond.
“This has been a very eye-opening week for me and each year becomes more eye-opening,” says Raines. “And I think I was able to put things into perspective and be able to put a lot of life issues into perspective by experiencing these weeks here.”
