A friendship-based one-on-one mentoring program for children ages 6-18 who lost a parent or caregiver in military service.

Mentors and Mentees spend time together with the goal of building connection, offering advice or helping navigate challenges, and sharing about life experiences in a safe and fun environment.

Tuesday's Children Youth Mentoring program is designed to be a long-term support for children and their families while they navigate life after losing a loved one in military service. Borne from our Youth Mentoring program that served children who lost a parent on September 11th, 2001, this program provides a meaningful connection with a trusted adult to foster healing and post-traumatic growth.

Volunteer mentors are recruited, screened, trained and managed by our professional staff to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved. Matches are made based on common interests, personality traits, location, and schedules.

Studies show that having a mentor can reduce likelihood of children participating in risky behaviors, lessen depressive symptoms, reduce truancy, promote positive social attitudes, and increase level of trust with surviving parent.

Matches can plan their connection to be in-person, virtual, or a combination.

Participation in the program is intended to last a minimum of one year and many last until the children enter adulthood.
