Community Conversations is a virtual speaker series welcoming our families to connect, heal, and grow.

MAY 27: 9/11 Family Members on Telling Your Story

Dr. Ryan Sliwak will facilitate this panel to bring awareness to topics unique to the 9/11 community and provide an opportunity for learning and community during this milestone year. Ryan lost his father on 9/11 and has focused his professional work on supporting 9/11 and military communities.

PEER SUPPORT GROUPS

Peer Support Groups are safe spaces where people with shared experiences come together for mutual support, understanding, and connection. Led by trained facilitators, these groups focus on community and post-traumatic growth. Group sessions run for 6 weeks throughout the year and are formed based on need and circumstance.

MAY-JUNE 6-WEEK SESSIONS

  • Sibling Loss Group Adults who have experienced loss of a sibling on 9/11 or in post-9/11 military service

  • First Responders Group 9/11 First Responders (NYPD, FDNY, PAPD, EMTs) and construction workers

  • Child Loss Group Adults who experienced loss of a child on 9/11, due to illness related to 9/11, or in post-911 military service

  • 9/11 Parent Loss Group Adults who experienced loss of a parent on 9/11

  • 9/11-Related Illness Parent Loss Group Adults who experienced loss of a parent due to 9/11-related illness

  • 9/11 Spouse Loss Group Adults who experienced loss of a spouse on 9/11

  • Spouse Loss Due to Illness Group Adults who experiences loss of a spouse due to 9/11-related or military service-related illness

  • Spouse Loss Due to Suicide Group Adults who experienced loss of a military spouse due to suicide

  • Men's Group Men who experienced loss of a child, parent, or sibling on 9/11, due to 9/11-related illness or in post-9/11 military service

Meet our Peer Support Group Facilitators! 

Becky Rossman

Becky is the CEO of Tuesday’s Children and has extensive experience supporting individuals and families impacted by trauma, loss, and crisis. She holds a Master’s degree in Applied Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Becky is a national trainer and crisis responder with NOVA, has completed peer support training through Give an Hour, and is a Certified Grief Educator. She brings a compassionate, participant-centered approach to creating safe, supportive spaces where people can connect, share, and heal together.

Fred Strobel

Fred is a longtime mentor who has been supporting youth and young adults impacted by loss and major life transitions through his work with Tuesday’s Children since 2012.

Fred is a Certified Grief Educator through the David Kessler grief education program. He brings a steady, participant-centered approach to fostering supportive group environments where individuals are respected and met where they are.

 

Fred serves on the Board of Directors of Tuesday’s Children and StreetWise Partners and remains deeply committed to mentorship, connection, and community-based support.

Programs are available to any registered Tuesday's Children family or individual.
