Project Heart to Heart

Project Heart to Heart is a three-day program for post-9/11 military widows and widows from September 11th to grow, heal, and make lifelong friendships.

Women with a similar bond share their stories to help empower, strengthen, and share memories of the past and hope for the future. Our resilience-building programs have given widows the resolution to commemorate their loss and find ways to continue to heal and recreate their lives with a focus on positivity.

“Sometimes we don’t laugh because we think we need to act a certain way. Especially when you’re in it the first year, or even the first six months, you’re supposed to act like a widow. The label is on — ‘You’re a widow’ — so, that means you’re not supposed to be smiling, [but] it’s OK to laugh, it’s OK to cry, it’s OK to move on, and it’s OK to live, because we’re still left here on this earth to live. And that’s what we need to do.”

– Project Heart to Heart Participant Dana, Military Widow

“I felt this was an opportunity to give back to other widows, to share where I had been and where I am now. The workshops and facilitators really helped us feel safe and able to express ourselves. On 9/11, I was not sad, but felt I could celebrate my husband and all the wonderful days he lived!”
