Join us and Mote Aquarium on Wednesday, August 12th, for a virtual tour focused on shark research and care.
Tour Overview: We begin with a review of the history of shark research at the Mote Marine Laboratory. Next, we will watch a demonstration of shark husbandry and training with biologists from atop a 135,000 gallon exhibit. The program will conclude with a question and answer session with ocean experts.
This program is open to all ages.
Objectives: Participants will watch a live shark training and feeding session, learn about the history of shark research and technologies used at the lab, identify reasons for training sharks and other animals in human care, develop an appreciation for sharks and their important ecological role and compare up to three stewardship actions they can take to help shark conservation.
Schedule:
9:05 AM – Program starts with discussion of shark research at Mote Aquarium
9:20 AM – Sharks in our ecosystems
9:25 AM – Demonstration of shark husbandry and aquarium biologists chat
9:30 AM – Open Q&A with ocean experts
