How have our families been impacted by this crisis?
For the thousands of families we serve, including those in the 9/11 community, in Gold Star military families, and in communities impacted by terrorism and mass violence, the current public health crisis has many parallels to their previous trauma and loss. All of our families are subject to feelings of helplessness, anxiety over the unknown, bracing for what else might happen, the fear of whether those they know and love will be able to recover from the financial impact, let alone the medical impact. Many in our community have already been directly impacted by the current pandemic, and many of our families have essential workers who are helping to mitigate the effects of this crisis and slow the spread of the virus.
