Hudson River Sailing

SailingontheHudson6302009

On one of the few sunny days in June, our teens participated in a one day sailing program delivered by Hudson River Community Sailing.

This unique opportunity to sail on the Hudson River was enjoyed by all.  Not only did they learn the basics of sailing in a safe and congenial environment, it was a program that helped the teens connect with each other as they worked as a team sailing their vessels.

A great time was had by all.

A special thanks to Hudson River Community Sailing for providing this wonderful program.

Fathers Day at Sandy Hook Beach

Father's Day Sandy Hook Beach Day

On Sunday June 21, 2009, Tuesday’s Children family members came together for the Seventh Annual Family Beach Day at Seagull’s Nest in Sandy Hook, NJ.

Despite the cloudy weather, families came down to the beach for food, fun and music!

The kids danced the afternoon away and played games with PJ from Unforgettable DJ’s. There was plenty of food for all and old friends laughed and took time catching up.

By the end of the day, the sun came out and everyone was able to enjoy some beach time!

A big thank you to the Seagull’s Nest for hosting this great event year after year! Also, thank you to Chrisanne Mortensen for providing kites, which the kids loved!

The Museum of Modern Art

On Saturday May 16th, mentors and mentees gathered at the Museum of Modern Art, ready to use their creativity.

With the guidance of Calder, our MoMa guide, the group learned how to view and interpret artwork.

After looking at a Marc Chagall piece and discussing it as a group, they set off to explore the museum.

It was a wonderful afternoon, where mentors and mentees were able to work together to create a beautiful piece of art.

Take Our Children to Work Day 2009

Thursday, April 23rd was Tuesdays' Children Seventh Annual Take Our Children to Work Day.

Nearly 100 children, ages 7-19, participated and were assigned to various corporate hosts including Michael Kors, Blue Man Group, CNN, Time Inc., National Hockey League and many more.

Children enjoyed a full day experience shadowing professionals working in a field in which they have possible career interest.

Companies such as LaBranche Structured Products, LLC provided the children with a tour of the office as well as the New York Stock Exchange.

The kids met employees and saw the day to day happenings. Debra at LaBranche later told us "Jake, Brendon and Matthew were so very well behaved and polite, thanks for sending us such fine boys. I think they had a great day!"

This year twenty three children signed up for the first time! One of the Moms who chaperoned at DKNY said "The people at Donna Karan were so sweet and encouraging to the girls.

They showed and explained to the girls the whole process of designing; they started with the inspiration, to color selection and the actual design." Tuesday's Children thanks all of the wonderful volunteer chaperones, dedicated corporate hosts and excited children who made this day possible.

The Challenger Center

On April 5th, 2009 the Tuesday's Children Mentoring Program launched into outer space at the Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Center.

Matches from Long Island, New Jersey and Hudson Valley came together to learn through an interactive Mission to Mars!

Each mentor and mentee, as well as other family members, were able to work in the control room and in the spaceship itself to navigate and monitor the simulated space vessel.

Ian, a mentor from Hudson Valley told us "Nick and I got to land a space shuttle on the surface of Mars; how cool is that!"

Tuesday's Children thanks Commander Kristy, Commander Brett and Commander John as well as all the future astronauts for their participation in exciting afternoon to infinity and beyond!
