Helping Heals

Research indicates that by giving something back to the community, individuals take a significant step toward improving psychological mental health. Dr. Marylene Cloitre head of the NYU Institute for Trauma and Stress and a member of Tuesday’s Children’s Professional Advisory Board said “those who engage in volunteer work experience a significant improvement in emotional well-being, self esteem, self worth and self efficacy.  They develop a greater sense of purpose in life, achieve increased mastery over their lives, and improved life satisfaction.”

Through our initiative entitled Helping Heals, Tuesday’s Children has instituted international, domestic and local community service programs for both teens and adults.

Life Management Programs

Life Management programs provide tools and resources for adult family members to help develop a new perspective on their lives, enhance skills and abilities, and focus their energies positively toward the future.  Tuesday’s Children engages leading experts in their fields to design and conduct these programs and activities.  These include:  Parenting Skills, Health and Wellness, and Financial Management programs.

Getting Well/Staying Well

The Getting Well/Staying Well initiative is designed to provide mental health services to the 9/11 children and their families and create bridges between mental health services and Tuesday’s Children wellness programs.  Psychologists and therapists from various organizations consult with Tuesday’s Children program managers on mental health considerations in the development and delivery of programming; provide support groups to adults and teenagers, and participate in the delivery of wellness programs; and provide appropriate referral, counseling and follow-through.
