Help Your Children Build Resilience

Hurricane Sandy and the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary created a national response of fear, confusion and worry. Children specifically, have been struggling to understand their own feelings and reactions to these events. This seminar will look at the varying ways children react to events like these and provide information for parents to build children’s resilience and to respond appropriately to their needs. 

As requested by our family members, we are offering this valuable program, which we know will benefit you, your family, and your friends. Please feel free to forward this information to them.

About Jamie Howard, PhD

Jamie M. Howard, PhD, is a clinical psychologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders in children and adolescents. Dr. Howard will lead the Child Mind Institute's Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center trauma response group. Her expertise in treating post-traumatic stress and adjustment disorders across the lifespan is a product of dedication to the most current and effective interventions, combined with her passion for helping children and families adjust to difficult and unexpected life experiences.

Prior to joining the Child Mind Institute, Dr. Howard served as a clinical research associate with the National Center for PTSD and a clinical fellow with the Center for Returning Veterans, VA Boston Healthcare System. As a clinical researcher, she worked to develop and test programs designed to help newly returning veterans and their family members. Dr. Howard has provided developmental consultation to staff at a preschool for at-risk children; served as a crisis counselor in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks; and provided assessment and therapy to children during her doctoral training at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Howard is a strong advocate for children and families in crisis. She is devoted to developing comprehensive treatments that facilitate resilience through a combination of specialized training, composure, and especially familial warmth.
