In the early morning hours of July 5, 2007, eight teens met at LaGuardia Airport for the first time.  They had each decided to take the challenge of participating in an eight-day Outward Bound Mountaineering expedition in the Colorado Rockies.  They began as strangers, but during the adventurous week, created memories and bonds that will last a lifetime. The mission of Outward Bound is to inspire self-esteem, self-reliance, concern for others and care for the environment.  Outward Bound promotes character development through adventure education.  During the week, the participants created a small interdependent community that supported each others' personal efforts, fostering feelings of success, compassion and respect.  “It was really great” said one participant, “everyone got along.  I learned that I can set a goal for myself, put my mind to it and complete it.  The guides were really nice.  Also, the stars were amazing.  I think everyone should go on an Outward Bound.”
