Tuesday’s Children’s new President Carmine Calzonetti was thrilled to meet each individual and personally thank them for their time and commitment. “Having the opportunity to personally thank each mentor for the contribution they have made to TC and each family is a rewarding experience,” he said. “The ambiance of the event was wonderful and the outpouring of emotion was truly touching.”

In addition, he shared the news about the significant new initiatives Tuesday’s Children will be involved in, including Tuesday’s Champions geared towards the Rescue & Recovery workers and Responders, as well as an international initiative called Project Common Bond.

Jennifer Betancourt, Director of Mentoring, presented the Mentor of the Year award to Doug Naumann from the Long Island Mentoring Program.  Doug has been matched with his mentee, Anthony, for over a year and they have solidified a consistent, fun-filled friendship that includes playing golf, attending professional football games, going bowling and attending museums. Doug graciously accepted his award on behalf of all the mentors and expressed  how he really appreciates being part of the Tuesday’s Children community.  Each mentor received a certificate of appreciation and a Tuesday’s Children’s frame for a picture that captures a special moment shared with their mentee.

“Mentors through the Tuesday’s Children’s program have been making a difference for years.  The importance of a mentor’s friendship, encouragement and support is incalculable,” said Jennifer Betancourt, Director of Mentoring.  “These friendships are long lasting and have made an incredible impact on both the mentor and child.” Sara Wingerath, Mentoring Coordinator, said, “This evening continues to build community among mentors of various ages, backgrounds and geographical areas.  It was a pleasure to greet everyone and to be able to thank each mentor for their invaluable support to Tuesday’s Children and each mentee.”
