David Weild IV is Elected as New Tuesday's Children's Chairman of the Board |
October 29 , 2007
New York, New York One of New York’s most respected financial professionals and the former Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of the NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc., Mr. Weild has served on the Tuesday’s Children Board since 2003, most recently as Vice Chairman of the Board. Outgoing Board Chairman Jonathan S. Barnett said, “Having served with David on this Board for more than four years, I know that the future of Tuesday’s Children’s is in great hands. As this organization continues to expand – adding important and creative new initiatives – David’s business acumen, compassion and experience at Tuesday’s Children will prove to be essential assets.” Mr. Weild said, “Tuesday’s Children is one of the only 9/11-related charities to withstand the test of time. We have remained relevant and strong because for the last six years, we have listened to the 9/11 community and have responded with programs that meet their specific and evolving needs. Most recently, we launched Tuesday’s Champions, an initiative that provides health and wellness services to Ground Zero rescue and recovery workers. “The need for philanthropic support for Tuesday’s Children continues to grow as nearly 99% of charities set up to serve the 9/11 community have ceased operations and new needs, such as those of the construction workers, continue to emerge. As a result, the number of people that Tuesday’s Children serves is growing, and our value - as a repository of knowledge to assist in the wake of future acts of terrorism - is now greatly magnified. As long as there is a risk of future acts of terrorism on US soil, there will be a need for Tuesday’s Children,” Mr. Weild added. Tuesday’s Children provides a wide range of services to 5,000 people in the New York, Washington, DC and Boston areas. Programming includes mentoring, educational and career guidance, wellness, leadership training and life-management services -- all designed to address the unmet needs of 9/11 family members and Ground Zero rescue and recovery workers at each stage of life and recovery. Additionally, Tuesday’s Children is conducting longitudinal studies done in conjunction with NYU Child Study Center documenting the mental health and family functioning of the 9/11 families. These studies will provide keen insights into the recovery process over time, and should be invaluable to the recovery of future victims of terrorism. “In the wake of 9/11 Tuesday’s Children turned to Oklahoma City for guidance. There were insights to be sure, but there was no concentrated body of knowledge to help us better focus resources to aid in the recovery of the victims of 9/11. With the public’s support, we’d like to ensure that Tuesday’s Children is ready and able to assist future victims of terrorism and the organizations that rise to assist them,” said Mr. Weild. In his role at Capital Markets Advisory Partners, Mr. Weild advises senior managements, venture capitalists and private equity firms on how to improve results in accessing the public equity markets. Prior to his current position at Capital Markets Advisory Partners, he served as vice chairman and executive vice president of The NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc., and was President of PrudentialSecurities.com and head of corporate finance and equity capital markets at Prudential Services Incorporated. Mr. Weild is a member of The New York Economic Club and The Bond Club of New York, where he served as a past treasurer and business manager of The Bawl Street Journal, an annual spoof published by the Bond Club of New York. He lives in Bronxville, New York, with his wife Christi Collins Weild and three young children David, Mac, and Kelly.
