Tuesday's Children First Annual Basketball Clinic

Boys and Girls ages 7-13: Basketball players gather to participate in a basketball classic

September 29, 2007
Baruch College, New York, New York

On Saturday, September 29, the A.S.Z. Charity, in partnership with    Tuesday’s Children and the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, held its first annual Youth Basketball Clinic at Baruch College in Manhattan from 12-3 pm for boys and girls ages 7-13. The turn out was extraordinary and the energy from the kids was evident throughout the gym. The event included 20 Tuesday’s Children’s children, 20 Madison Boys and Girls Club children, and college basketball coaches from New York City’s finest universities including Columbia, NYU, LIU, St. John’s, St. Francis,  and Manhattan.

The clinic also included two entertainment segments. We were fortunate to have one of basketball’s legendary dribbling exhibitionists, “Crazy” George Schauer join in the fun! He drove all the way from Ohio to participate in what he called, “One of the most fantastic events and causes he has witnessed to date.” He continued by saying that, “The sky is the limit with this clinic. I hope it only gets bigger and I can keep on coming.” A Madison Square Garden performer, and former Cirque du Soleil tumbler David Alan “Cyclone” and his group of dancers got the event revved up as well. Their amazing acts of break dancing, flipping, and grooving to the music brought more energy into the already anticipated event.

The A.S.Z. charity was founded by Adam Zaslow and Andrew Pitagorsky in honor of Josh Aron, Will Spitz, and Ira Zaslow, as well as countless others who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The A.S.Z. Charity events are created to have a rewarding impact on the community and for those who participate in the events to take part in the joy and camaraderie of basketball and the “sport” experience. As a licensed 501 charity, all proceeds from the First Annual Basketball Clinic benefited Tuesday's Children and the Madison Square Garden Boys and Girls Club.

From everyone at Tuesday’s Children, we want to thank all the participants, coaches, universities, families, and Adam Zaslow and Andrew Pitagorsky for their help in making this intiail kind of event at Tuesday’s Children.  We hope to see you all next year.
